PITTSFIELD — Four pairs of empty shoes were placed on the steps of City Hall Sunday morning, each representing a person killed in a pedestrian crash this year in Berkshire County.
Shaloon Milord, Paul Gerard Ouellette, Shane Cassavant and Noor Khan Zadran. Nicholas Russo, lead organizer of the Pittsfield Community Design Center, read their names as part of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, an annual event which recognizes pedestrians, cyclists and motorists who have died in traffic accidents.
Milord, 30, was struck by a vehicle while walking her daughter to day care on Jan. 30. Ouellette, 68, was hit in a crosswalk in Lenox while returning to the Knights Inn where he was staying on Feb. 6.
Cassavant, 49, was hit by a pickup truck while working on a construction site on West Street on Oct. 12. Zadran, 26, was struck by a car on Route 41 near Inter-print. He died on Nov. 6.
